March 22 — April 20, 2003
Opening Reception Saturday, March 22, 7-10pm

31GRAND is pleased to present "Gauze" a survey of Farrell & Parkin's photographic work dating from A Passion for Maladies 1990/91 - brooding images of forlorn people abandoned in weird roomscapes which have a surreal docu-drama feel to them - through to their current work produced especially for this exhibition, Transfusion, a recreation of an historical medical procedure dating back to 1665/67 when physicians first attempted animal to human blood transfusions. A constructed tableau based on this 17th century reference, gives this photograph an exciting glimpse into the historical lineage leading us to the current medical research into Zeno transplantation.

This is a fascinating and thought provoking exhibition from Australia's leading collaborative team who have exhibited regularly internationally and in New York since the early 1990's. Their work was reproduced last year in the landmark photographic publication by Phaidon called "BLINK" and in Paco Barragon's book "El Arte Que Viene/The Art To Come" published by Subastas Siglo XXI in Madrid.

Gauze includes the signature pieces from their series based works produced throughout the 1990's including new video work.
